During 2018 – 2019 I was part of a team that improved the way airlines handle passenger check-in and boarding at airports all over the world.

Starting in 2017 a small team of designers was tasked with modernizing a legacy Sabre product that handles passenger check-in and boarding. as the product grew from a couple designers to almost 12 in a quarter the challenges shifted allowing me to join the team and support the team in key areas of our design deliverables by monitoring designs quality and pattern implementation consistency.

Digital Workspace – Responsive

Digital Workspace (iPad)

I joined as a Sr. Interaction Designer in mid May 2018 and quickly I stepped into monitoring and mentoring our Jr. Designers and overseas contractors in the efficient use of our Design System, and in-house design language that includes typography, iconography and guidelines to assure consistency across the different products.

DESIGN DIRECTION AND EXECUTION

  • - Verify product consistency before the end of every sprint
  • - Provide feedback to designers in order to keep products consistent
  • - Lead design consistency reviews
  • - Provide designers with templates and patterns
  • - Deliver consistent prototypes for usability testing

Aside from my responsibilities, monitoring our design deliverables. I designed flows to improve airline profitability by enhancing the “shopping” experience of selling ancillaries. I also worked on the hub for our sister product  and I continue to drive quality in our designs by sharing our consistency patterns across our third sister product Digital Experience, a customer-facing reservations web platform that shares data with our B2B product.

CORE DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • - Understand problems and sketch solutions
  • - Create wireframes using Sketch or Axure
  • - Deliver screens assigned to me for usability testing via InVision
  • - Deliver hi-fidelity mocks with interaction specifications
  • - Coordinate implementation with development teams

My key design drivers for this project are clarity and usability. And in order to keep metrics on our design impact we have been conducting bi-weekly usability studies. In these studies, we measure usability, learnability, and task-completion.

PRODUCT LIVE

For our first launch the new interface was launched at the airport location for AirBerlin, with results that drove airline training for their front of the line agents from 3 months to 2 weeks.
